Therapy with elevated concentration of oxygen is applied since the decade of 30's, and its history is full of followers and detractors, the last are more numerous. As a consequence of these avatars avatars, surgeons and other specialists as well, dot not have a very favorable idea of this therapy, it was prescribed in many cases as a petition of patients, even without knowing its real therapeutic effect. The objective of this revision is re-examinate the ways of applications the hyperbaric oxygenation, its physiologic effects, secondary effects its indication and side-effects.
