Abstract

A descriptive study was carried out characterizing the risk factors of ischemic cardiopathy present in patients admitted in the internal medicine ward at Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital Camagüey, from January 2001 to December 2003.The  universe rose to 480 patients, prevailing  the age groups  of 51 years (86, 66 %), masculine sex (57, 50 %), and white skin (83, 33 %). Arterial hypertension was the main risk factor (82, 5 %), followed by smoking (75 %) and left ventricular hyperthrofy (59, 16 %). Arterial hypertension was present in more than 50 % of all clinical forms of ischemic cardiopathy, in equal proportion smoking, left ventricular hypertrophy but only in unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction, supraventricular arrhythmias and cardiac failure presented. In more than 50 % of men all risk factors occurred. In the dicased, left ventricular hypertrophy arterial hypertension and dyslipidemias were, respectively the risk factors that frequently presented.
