RODRIGUEZ GUTIERREZ, Genné et al. Calcium hydroxide: its uses of in present-day endodontics. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.3, pp.143-152. ISSN 1025-0255.
This paper reviews the literature concerning the effects of calcium hydroxide, the clinical procedures for which it is suitable, and its applications in endodontic theraphy over the last decades. As regards the effects, they include hydroscopic, immunologic, mithogenic and antimicrobial action, increase in the threshold level for the nervous impulse start, pH increase, and mineralizing effect. Aside from that, calcium hydroxide has a role to play in pulp clapping, in pulpa radicularis treatment, in inner channel healing, and in cavity filling. Last but not least, calcium hydroxide is highly recommended in dental injuries such as luxations, avulsions, and root fractures, as well as in complicated lesions such as false paths, external and internal reabsorptions, and endoperiodontal lesions.
