Abstract

To assess mouth health status among the elderly population cared for by the Family Physician’s Office 36 of West Camagüey, cared for by the Ismael Clark Mascaró Clinic, a descriptive study on health care system and services was conducted from September 2003 to December 2003. Elders with psychosomatic disorders or perceptual impairment were excluded from the sample, made of 109 seniors. Risk factors and main mouth health problems were determined from dental records. As it turned out, patients aged 60-64 prevailed (31, 9 %), most showed poor mouth care (90 %), and more than half showed periodontal disease symptoms. All patients showed chewing dysfunction
