An observational descriptive study was conducted at the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Provincial Children's Hospital from January 2001 to January 2003 to assess the incidence of perforating eye injuries in children 46 patients made the universe. The study showed a prevalence of male patients aged 5-10. The eye most frequently injured was the right one (54, 3 % of patients). The most frequent perforating agents were wire and wooden stick (21, 7 %), 38, 4 % of patients developed traumatic cataract as a complication, 30 patients (34, 7 %) were operated on within the 24 hour following the trauma. Visual acuteness upon hospital leave was good in the majority of cases.
