Background: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to assess morbimortality in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Service of the Amalia Simoni General Hospital; Province of Camagüey .The universe consisted of patients admitted to the service between January 2001 and December 2003. The variables being considered were age, sex reasons for hospital admission, and direct causes for death upon necropsy, mortality, and deadliness. Ischemic cardiopaty prevailed as the reason for hospital admissions, whereas hernia of the tonsil of the cerebellum prevailed (20.6 %) as a reason for necropsy.
