Resumen

LA FONTAINE TERRY, Juan Carlos; PAULINA SIMBA, Natercia  y  CUTINO GUERRA, Margelis. Maternal and neonatal morbimortality in first time cesarean section. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.3, pp.13-25. ISSN 1025-0255.

An observational, descriptive study conducted at the Ana Betancourt Mora Maternity Hospital, Camagüey from 2002 to 2004 to assess maternal and neonatal morbimortality in first time caesarean section. Of the 240 women who made the sample, 190 were aged 20-34. Acute fetal suffering prevailed (34,6 %) as an indication responsible for much mild and severe depression at birth. Women with less than 12 hours of prebirth labor, and with 1-2 vaginal palpation accounted for a higher maternal morbimortality. Emergency cesarean section, which prevailed among 93 % of patients, increased morbimortality. Abdominal wall haematoma and endometritis prevailed as maternal morbimortality parameters, whereas death, pneumonia, and were depression at birth prevailed as neonatal morbimortality parameters.

Palabras clave : INDICATORS OF MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY; CESAREAN SECTION; NEONATOLOGY.
