Abstract

A study was conducted on Escherichia coli as a cause for diarrhea in children aged under 5 at the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology of Camagüey from July 2004 to December 2004 to assess the frequency rate of such an enteropathogenic in infants 174 samples of feces were studied. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, which was present in 10,4 % of patients, prevailed in female children aged under 6 months (60 %). Aeromona was the most frequent of associated enteropathogenis. Fecla leucocites were not present in 86,7 % patients who tested positive. More than 80 % of patients were diagnosed through negative sorbitol testing together with decarboxilation of amino acids lixine and actractive.
