Resumen

VICTORIA BARZAGA, Héctor Oscar; GUERRERO FERNANDEZ, María Irene  y  PINERUA IGLESIA, Marlenes del Pilar. The treatment of Norwegian scabies with ivermectin: Case reports. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.3, pp.125-130. ISSN 1025-0255.

Norwegian itch, a variety of scabies that is much more common in immunocompromised patients than in the general population, is characterized by the huge amount of parasites that the lesions host, which makes it highly contagious and difficult to treat. This paper reports on a case of a 13 years patient with a history of cell immunodeficiency who, after being admitted into our service with a diagnosis of Norwegian scabies, responded very well to oral administration of ivermectin and to treatment with 5 % sulphur ointment 5. The clinical features of Norwegian itch are described and the treatment with ivermectin is discussed, along with its efficacy.

Palabras clave : MITE INFESTATIONS [therapy]; IVERMECTINA [therapeutic use].
