ROSELL JUARTE, Ernesto; BROWN BONORA, Raquel  y  PEDRO HERNANDEZ, Alejandro. Risk factors of hypertensive disease in pregnancy. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.5, pp.53-61. ISSN 1025-0255.

1: 2 A paired controls and cases study was conducted to assess the risk factors of hypertensive disease in pregnancy at “Carlos J. Finlay” Polyclinic of the Municipality of Camagüey, from October 2002 to April 2004. Thirty-six cases and 72 controls were studied, supported by the perinatal care records, through a survey applied. Data processing was carried out using bivaried and univaried methods. Smoking habit (OR=6, 40000 ; P< 0, 01285), Obesity ( OR=3, 32727 ;P<0, 03755, maternal low weight or pregravidic (OR=2, 20000; P< 0, 04712) and the nulliparity (OR=4, 88000; P<0, 00365) were statistically associated with the hypertensive disease in pregnancy, whereas extreme ages, low schooling and associated chronic diseases evaluated ,were not related with the event under study. A case of a patient with eclamptic mother, isoimmunization RH & hydramnios, respectively. These findings show the main risk factors of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy within the population being studied (smoking habit, obesity ,maternal malnourishment by defect and the nulliparity), which may be useful clinical markers that be able to detect the disease in early clinical stages and to avoid its progression towards serious stages.
