^les^aSe realizó un estudio descriptivo en los sistemas y servicios de salud, con el objetivo de influir en el nivel de información sobre prevención del cáncer bucal en la población adulta de los consultorios con perfil docente en la clínica estomatológica provincial Ismael Clark y Mascaró de Camagüey, desde diciembre de 2002 a noviembre de 2005. El universo estuvo constituido por 7252 mayores de 15 años y por muestra aleatoria estratificada de 183 pacientes. Se revisaron las historias clínicas individuales para obtener información sobre los factores de riesgo de cada paciente y se aplicó una entrevista confeccionada al efecto para diagnosticar el nivel de información sobre prevención del cáncer bucal y la percepción del riesgo a enfermar, donde se obtuvieron como resultados más relevantes, en orden decreciente, el consumo de tabaco, de alcohol, prótesis desajustadas, deficiente higiene bucal y obturaciones filosas. El nivel de información sobre prevención del cáncer bucal que predominó fue insatisfactorio en el 58, 0 %, y el 73, 2 % de la muestra no tuvo percepción del riesgo a enfermar, por tanto fue evidente la necesidad de elevar la promoción y educación para la salud en nuestros consultorios. Por los resultados obtenidos se recomienda crear una estrategia educativa en siguientes estudios y evaluar los resultados obtenidos.^len^aA descriptive study in the systems and health services was performed with the objective to influence the information level about prevention of oral cancer in adult population of the doctors’ offices of teaching profile at Ismael Clark y Mascaró Provincial Dental Clinic of Camagüey, from December 2002 to November 2005. The universe was constituted by 7252, older than 15 years and by stratified randomized sample of 183 patients. The individual clinical records to obtain information about risk factors of each patient were checked up, and also was applied an interview designed to this purpose, to diagnose the information level about oral cancer and the risk perception to fall sick, where, as relevant results were obtained, in decreasing order; alcohol and smoking intake, maladjusted prosthesis, inadequate oral hygiene and edged obturations. The level information about prevention of oral cancer that predominated was unsatisfactory in the 58, 0 % and the 73, 2 % of the sample did not have risk perception to fall ill, therefore it was evident the necessity to increase the promotion and education for health in our health offices. Through the obtained results is recommendable the application of an educative strategy in following studies and evaluate the obtained results.
