Abstract

A paired 1:1 case and control study was conducted to establish the risk factors of cervix cancer at "Joaquín de Agüero” District of  Camagüey  municipality from October  2002 to April 2004,  in diagnosed patients with the said affection.  Thirty one cases and 31 controls from the official registers of abnormal organic cytologies of the district and the clinical records of the Gynecobstetric and Oncology Hospitals of Camagüey, complemented with a survey.  For data processing, the automated Microstat and Epidat statistical methods were utilized.  The 51.62% (OR=5.547, P<0.0034) of the cases had low school level, the 96.78% (OR=32.000, P<0.00002) had three or more sexual partners and the 48.38% smoked (OR=3.214, P<0.0352).  Also, the first sexual intercourses were risk factors in the adolescence (OR=4.552, P<0.0012) and to have had three or more deliveries (OR=10.47, P<0.0012), the use of contraceptive pills did not present in equal form (P<0.3113) and the human viral papilloma, probably randomized influenced.
