Abstract

PEREIRA RECIO, Héctor. Echographic diagnosis of the intestinal invagination in the adult. A case report. AMC [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.1. ISSN 1025-0255.

The intestinal invagination has a low incident in adults, it represents a 5 % of the intestinal mechanical obstructions; it is demonstrable causes even in a 90 % of the cases. Its clinical presentation is used to be non-specific and of difficult diagnosis, its delay can conduct to the intestinal necrosis. The imaging techniques represent a fundamental role in the management of these patients; the majority decide the urgent surgical intervention. The radiological researches of the abdomen, above all the barium studies are traditionally utilized to the final diagnosis of invagination; nevertheless, at present the differential diagnosis is easier using ultrasonography and computerized tomography. A case of intestinal invagination is presented in the adult diagnosed radiologically and by echography. The radiological and echographic findings are commented, which show that echography is an election technique in adult patients.
