^les^aSe realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal con el objetivo de determinar el conocimiento sobre los dispositivos intrauterinos en el personal relacionado con la contracepción en Nuevitas, en el período comprendido desde el 1 de noviembre de 2004 hasta el 31 de mayo de 2006. La muestra estuvo constituida por 144 profesionales de la salud a los cuales se les llenó una encuesta con las variables seleccionadas según bibliografía revisada, la que se convirtió en el registro primario definitivo de la investigación. Se obtuvieron resultados importantes como el desconocimiento de la clasificación actualizada de los dispositivos intrauterinos (100 %), las deficiencias en el conocimiento de cuándo deben insertarse (65.40 %), a qué edad deben usarse (80.00%), duración de reacciones adversas (98.8 %), eficacia (54.11%) y tiempo de renovación (95.8 %). Se encontraron resultados favorables relacionados con el conocimiento de las contraindicaciones, el momento ideal para insertar en el posparto y retorno a la fertilidad.^len^aA cross-sectional descriptive study with the objective to determine the knowledge about intrauterine device's related to the contraception staff in Nuevitas, was performed from November the 1st, 2004 to May 31st, 2006. The sample was constituted by 144 health professionals to which a survey was filled out to them with the selected variables according to the bibliography revised, which became the final primary register of the investigation. Important results were obtained like the ignorance of the updated classification of intrauterine device's (100%), deficiencies in the knowledge of when it should be inserted (65.40%), at what age it should be used (80.00%), duration of adverse reactions (98.8%), efficacy (54.11%) and time of renewal (95.8%). Favorable results were found related to the knowledge of the contraindications, the ideal moment to insert it in the postpartum and return to fertility.
