Resumen

A descriptive study with the objective to determine the behavior of mortality in the Intensive Therapy Unit at the Military Hospital of Camagüey, was carried out from December 31st, 2004 to January the 1st, 2006. The primary source was constituted by the clinical recordings of the patients discharged of the service, data tabulation and the statistical processing was carried out, being found as main indicators that 225 discharged patients, of these 138 dead, representing the 61.3%. The 75% of the admissions proceeded of the emerging intensive care unit, the remainder fundamentally came from the medicine (15%) and surgery services (10%). The variables age and intercurrent illness were those of greater incident in the mortality, modifiable subjective factors were identified; as the admission of every serious patient independently of not reversible of their state, not dangerous criteria and time for the admission or transfer to the intensive therapy room.
