A case and control analytic study with the objective to identify the behavior of some low birth weight risk factors in the basic group of work No.1, was carried out at Previsora Educational Community Polyclinic of Camagüey municipality, from January 2000 to December 2004. The universe was constituted by 39 low birth weight patients (group of cases), which was compared with 39 normal birth weight children (control group). A survey was applied, that constituted the final primary register of the investigation. Data were computer processed using MICROSTAT and EPIDAT statistical programs, the results were illustrated in texts’ form, tables. A predominance of women about 20 or more years of age with 87 % and with hard-working occupation a 53 %, was found. The not good family percapita had an ODSS RATIO of 3.40, marital status single woman 1.20, smoking habit 5.58, low birth weight antecedents 1.00, short intergenesic period 3.09, low weight at the beginning of pregnancy 2.24, not adequate profit during pregnancy 6.76, and the illnesses during pregnancy 37. It was determined as low birth weight risk factors, the illnesses in the course of pregnancy, followed by not adequate weight profit and finally not good family percapita.
