PEREZ ALVAREZ, Luis; HERNANDEZ VIDAL, Antonio  and  RODRIGUEZ MESO, Juan. ingles. AMC [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.6. ISSN 1025-0255.

The infantile disability study should not be confined to purely pediatric aspects, should dealt with the analysis of each way to face the problem within its sociohistorical environment.  A retrospective historical research since the foundation of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe Village was carried out, until present, with the objective to assess the socioeconomic factors that influenced in the attention quality to the boy with disability. The lack of attention to this problem in the republican and colonial stage is shown, departing from a variety unfavorable socioeconomic determining factors, that situation has improved significantly since the triumph of the revolution. Facing disability has the historically conditioned need of a social system that guarantee the necessary human and material resources, to give answer to this complex problem, which is only achieved with the active participation of the State.
