An updated bibliographical review of thirty-five documents was performed on dental occlusion and within it, the conceptual tendencies, the problems of the modern Odontology, the optimum articular position, the optimum functional dental contacts and the direction and magnitude of the force applied in the teeth. It is intend to expand the knowledge of the Stomatology personnel on the theme, to do emphasis in the need of the stomatologist professional activity to enrich progressively its actions and be able, through the functional study of the occlusion, to undress findings and guides.
