Background: In grown-up people loss of balance, difficulties in the way of walking and vision's decrease is natural. Objective: To demonstrate the efficacy of an educational intervention proposal in old men from a grandparents' house on falls at home. Method: An educational intervention study in old men from a grandparents' house on falls at home was conducted. Fifty-two old men and 37 relatives or principal guards of the grandparents' house from "Ignacio Agramonte" Polyclinic of Camagüey municipality were studied from January to June 2007. A survey that was containing the variables to study was applied, before and after the educational intervention applied. Results: The 15.4% of the old men suffered a fall at home in the first trimester of the year, one half related with intrinsic and extrinsic factors, respectively. The decrease of visual acuity was the most frequently causal factor recognized by the old men (61.5%) and the muscle-skeletal diseases for relatives or guards (75.6%), the percentage of another factors and the preventive measures known by both groups turned out to be inferior to the 50%. Conclusions: After educational intervention, was achieved that almost the 100% of their relatives or guards recognized the risk factors, an increment on knowledge in the elderly among a 20 and 60% was obtained.
