Abstract

MARTIN REYES, Odalys; FERRALES DIA, Yisel  and  FERNANDEZ CARMENATES, Neysy. Effectiveness of the magnetotherapy in the treatment of alveolitis. AMC [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.1. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: one of the complications that may show up as consequence of a disturbance in the cicatrization of the alveolar wound is the alveolitis or circumscribed alveolar osteitis. Objective: to demonstrate the effectiveness of the magnetotherapy in the treatment of the alveolitis. Methods: an early phase II unicentric, open clinical trial was conducted, at the Odontology Clinic "Minas" of Camagüey province, from March 2007 to January 2008. The treatment was ambulatory and magnetotherapy was applied to a sample of sixty patients with alveolitis diagnosis. To the stimulation the multipurpose equipment of Chinese production KWD-808 and number one wave (analgesic) in unipolar way was used during thirty minutes in the IG4 points (unilateral), and a local point (Ahshi). Results: it was significant the elimination of the pain from the first consultation, with just nine patients (15%) with light pain in the fourth visit. The treatment was effective for 85% of the patients. Conclusions: the treatment was effective in the alveolitis. The pain diminished significantly starting from the first visit independently of the antecedents (infection or trauma) and type of alveolitis (humid or dry). It turned out to be, also, an innoxious technique for the organism in the treatment of this stomatological urgency.
