Estrategia educativa como instrumento preventivo de urgencias en pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis parcial removible metálica

Background: it is common that patients that use metallic removable partial prosthesis go to the emergency service of prosthesis to present dental pains, caries, fractured retainers, among other problems. Objective: to apply an educational strategy directed to the prevention of stomatological urgencies in rehabilitated patients with metallic removable partial prosthesis. Method: an educational intervention study in the polyclinic Atención al Combatiente of the Department of the Interior of Camagüey from January to December 2008. The universe was constituted by fifty-two patients that were rehabilitated with metallic removable partial prosthesis, of which an equiprobabilistic sample of forty patients was taken. Controls of dentobacterial plaque were used and hygiene of the diagnostic prosthesis incorporated to a form. An intervention strategy was applied and the obtained results were compared. Results: after the strategy the 90% of patients presented a good oral hygiene, the 87% good hygiene of their prosthesis and the 92% had a good level of information. Conclusions: most of those examined improved the level of information as far as use, hygiene and care of prosthesis, and the oral and prosthetic hygiene after having applied the strategy; the stomatological urgencies were not plentiful; everybody learned something new in health prevention through the meetings.
