^les^aFundamento: a pesar de que el Sistema Integral para la evaluación externa de la calidad en los laboratorios clínicos (versión 1) aplicado desde el año 2000 logró los objetivos propuestos, surgió la necesidad de incluir nuevos parámetros que incidieran sobre aquellos indicadores de impacto de la calidad  susceptibles de mejorar aún más (versión 2), para de esta forma contribuir a elevar la cultura por la calidad, la excelencia en nuestra especialidad e incrementar los conocimientos requeridos para la elaboración e implantación de Sistemas de Gestión de la Calidad. Objetivo: modificar y ampliar el Sistema Integral (versión 1). Método: se realizó un estudio documental  que incluyó los resultados de la aplicación del Sistema Integral que sirvió para realizar un diagnóstico de los parámetros que se debían modificar o incluir para mejorar la eficiencia y eficacia del sistema creado. Resultados: los elementos que conforman el sistema son: aspectos organizativos, aspectos de calidad y otros controles, los mismos se evalúan según escala cuantitativa de 0 -100 puntos. Su utilización como instrumento evaluativo durante los años 2000 al 2004 y su modificación en el 2005 han sido decisivos para mejorar los indicadores fundamentales de la provincia. Conclusiones: con la implementación de dicho  sistema se han elevado la exigencia, el interés, la motivación y preocupación por obtener mejores resultados en la calidad de los exámenes por parte de los representantes  de esta actividad en las unidades participantes.^len^aBackground: although the Integrated System of quality assessment in clinical laboratories (version 1) applied from the year 2000, achieved the proposed objectives, arose the necessity of including new parameters that influenced on those quality impact indicators capable of better improvement (version 2), to contribute to elevate the culture for quality, the excellence in this specialty and to increase the required knowledge for the elaboration and installation of Quality Management Systems. Objectives: to modify and to amplify the Integrated System (version 1). Method: a documental study that included the results of the application of the Integrated System was conducted which allowed to carry out a diagnosis of the parameters that should be modified or to include for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the created system. Results: elements that make up the system are: organizational aspects, aspects of quality and other controls, which are evaluated according to quantitative scale of 0-100 points. Its use as evaluative instrument from the years 2000 to 2004 and its modification in 2005 has been decisive to improve the main indicators of the province. Conclusions: with the implementation of the said system has been risen the requirements, the interest, the motivation and concern for obtaining better results in the exams´ quality on the part of the representatives of this activity in the participant units.
