Abstract

Background: burns in adults over than 60 years old are frequent as part of accidents suffered by these people of the third age. Objective: to determine the morbi-mortality by burns in the elderly, in patients treated in the plastic surgery and burn service at the University Hospital Manuel Ascunce Domenech in Camagüey city in the triennium 2007-2009. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional and observational study was performed. Thirty-four patients over than 60 years, who suffered burns were hospitalized, and constituted the universe of study. The sample coincided with the universe because all patients met the inclusion criteria for research. Results: the largest number of injured patients was female, the age group that prevailed was between 60 y 65 years for both sex, and accidental way slightly prevailed in the male sex regarding the female. Conclusion: in the study the accidental injuries prevailed, the female sex was the most affected; classified as mild and less serious injuries were in greater amount. The majority of patients discharged alive.
