Abstract

Background: despite scientific advances, postoperative infectious complications remain a significant clinical problem. Development: a literature review about infections in surgery and current concepts in sepsis and infection was carried out. Controversial topics and with no clear consensus were presented as well as new researches in the world related to surgery. Including the use of sepsis markers, antibiotics, vasoactive substances and steroids, nutrition, support to other organs, clinical, humoral and pharmacokinetic interpretation of infected patients at different stages were studied.
