Abstract
RODRIGUEZ RODRIGUEZ, Eugenio Isidro. Blount´s disease: osteotomy with bony implant of fibula. AMC [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.4, pp.438-443. ISSN 1025-0255.
Background: blount's disease affects the internal metaphysis of the upper tibia and is characterized by clinical presentation rod tibia, may be unilateral or bilateral and be associated with internal tibial torsion. Objective: to present a case of Blount’s disease which was diagnosed in external checkup by clinical examination and radiographs. Clinical case: a five-year-old black female patient of black skin color. Her mother reports that the girl was born with very twisty legs and was taken to be assessed by a doctor, who indicated treatment with orthopedic footwear. After not achieving improvement, she is brought to external chekup where physical examination deformity was noted in bilateral varus of the lower extremities. Posterior and lateral radiograph of the legs was indicated, where a compatible image was seen with Blount's disease. Hospitalizing the patient for surgical treatment by internal valgus tibial osteotomy and grafting of fibula was decided. Conclusions: blount's disease is considered a rare diagnosis. The treatment of choice was surgical with valgus osteotomy open tibia and fibula graft, since it is a less invasive technique over bony parts. It does not need supplemental fixation and presents few complications.
