Abstract

Background:

the blood donations are stimulated in the country by the Ministry of Public Health and the political and mass organizations.

Objective:

to evaluate an educative program on donations of blood to apt patients ready to donate of the Policlinic Hermanos Cruz.

Methods:

a quasi-experimental investigation was made with design pre-proves post-proves with a single group, from September 1, 2015 to January 20, 2018.The universe was of 501 apt patients no willing to donate from doctor’s office 6, 14, 16, 50, 55 and 56 who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. An educative program was applied on the process of donations. It was used the absolute and relative frequency as summary measures and the statistician Chi square of Mcnemar.

Results:

masculine sex predominated. The average age of the sample was 34.33 years. The main cause why the not willing persons did not donate was the fear to the puncture. With the application of the program, the amount of participants with good level of knowledge regarding voluntary donation was increased.

Conclusions:

the application of the applied educative program improved global level of knowledge on blood donations in apt patients not willing to donate
