Resumen

CASTELO-RIVAS, Walter Patricio; CASTRO-ROMERO, Estefanía Maribel  y  MORALES-PARRAGA, Ivon Fernanda. Psychological and social factors that influence the rehabilitation of patients with gastrostomy. AMC [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.2, e7191.  Epub 01-Abr-2020. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background:

the gastrostomy rehabilitation process causes problems in the quality of life from the pre-operative stage until after leaving the hospital area, integrally affecting patients.

Objective:

to analyze the psychological and social factors that influence the rehabilitation process of patients with gastrostomy.

Methods:

a study was conducted with a quantitative approach of descriptive type and non-experimental design of transversal type. The study universe consisted of 25 patients with gastrostomy, the same ones that met certain inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Montreux questionnaire instrument was applied, which was adapted according to the study variables.

Results:

several psychological factors that influence the rehabilitation of patients are observed in the majority of the sample, such as: worry, negative feelings, difficulty in coping with their condition and negative perception of their current state of health. Regarding social determinants, most of the patients were affected by their ability to relate to their environment. On the other hand, as regards the type of procedure performed, patients with permanent gastrostomy predominate.

Conclusions:

in this study it was worked largely with elderly patients and with permanent gastrostomy. In addition, it was evidenced the existence of both psychological and social factors that influence the rehabilitation process of most of these people, on the other hand the negative perception that these individuals have before their current state of health is remarkable.
