MORALES-MAYO, Manuel de Jesús et al. Understanding of epidemiological control of dengue in medical students. Arch méd Camagüey [online]. 2023, vol.27  Epub 15-Jul-2023. ISSN 1025-0255.

Introduction:

Dengue is currently the most important arbovirosis that affects man and it is a public health problem for Cuba and the world, despite the efforts of the member states to contain it and mitigate the impact of epidemics.

Objective:

To determine the understanding of dengue epidemiological control in medical students.

Methods:

A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out; the universe of study was made up of the 368 students enrolled in the fifth year of medicine at the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey after completing the Public Health rotation. A sample of 188 students was calculated. Methods and techniques of scientific research in the medical sciences were applied.

Results:

Only 9% of the students identified the type of mosquito involved in dengue transmission; 69.7% do not know the time of maximum circulation of the vector, 75% do not know the calculation and interpretation of the casa and Breteau index; 75.5% do not know the control measures in low tanks and 72.3% are unaware of the information related to the vector.

Conclusions:

There was evidence of low knowledge about important aspects related to the transmitting vector of dengue, epidemiological management and entomological control, as well as the information received on this subject in education at work. Correspondence with the results of other Cuban and foreign researchers was established and the effectiveness, objectivity and topicality of the study was verified.
