Abstract

IGLESIAS, Elsie et al. Evaluation of different methodologies for the preservation of Clostridium tetani, used in the production of human vaccines. Vaccimonitor [online]. 2000, vol.9, n.1, pp.12-16. ISSN 1025-028X.

In this study different methodologies for the preservation of Clostridium tetani were evaluated. To verify the culture maintenance, an adequate quality control was carried out, including tests for purity, viability and stability of the main characteristics. Two procedures for liophyilization were compared and a method to preserve C. tetani by freezing at -20ºC was evaluated. In order to measure certain parameters, some processes were performed at an industrial scale, using a 35L Chemap biorreactor. Alternatives and solutions to conservation problems were looked for. The results obtained suggest the possibility of its inclusion in the Mantenance Program already established.

Keywords : Conservation; Clostridium tetani.
