Resumen

VIZOSO PARRA, Angel; RAMOS RUIZ, Alberto; DECALO MICHELENA, Mercedes  y  BETANCOURT BADELL, José. Estudio genotóxico in vitro e in vivo en tinturas de Melissa officinalis L. (toronjil) y Mentha piperita L. (toronjil de menta). Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 1997, vol.2, n.1, pp.6-11. ISSN 1028-4796.

Two assay systems of genotoxicity were used: one in vitro, mitotic segregation test in Aspergillus nidulans D-30 diploid fungus, and another in vivo, micronuclei induction assay in bone marrow of the mouse. Potential action of genetic damage of tinctures from Melissa officinalis L. (lemon balm) and Mentha piperita L. (mint lemon balm) was assessed. In mitotic segregation assay, tinctures from Lemon Balm and mint lemon balm, with 4 and 6 concentrations, respectively, were evaluated within a range from 0,037 to 0,298 and from 0,025 to 0,250 mg of total solids, respectively. In micronuclei induction assay for lemon balm, dose of 89,53; 179,06, and 358,11 mg/Kg boy weight, and for mint lemon balm dose of 64,00; 128,00, and 225,00 mg/Kg body weight, were tested. In none of tests carried out a significant cytotoxic damage, neither occurrence of genotoxic effects, were detected.

Palabras clave : Melissa officinalis L; Mentha piperita L; Aspergillus nidulans; MICRONUCLEI; GENOTOXICITY; MITOTIC SEGREGATION; BONE MARROW; MICE.
