We investigate the acqueous extract effect from P. amboinicus on isolated ileum of gunea pigs and deferent ductus in rats. Acqueous extract produced a competitive type of muscarinic cholinergic antagonism on guinea pigs isolated ileum, and deferent ductus in rats; and an increase of exogenous adrenaline was observed. Moreover, results obtained in electrically-stimulated deferent ductus in rats, suggest that acqueous extract of the plant, to inhibit intraneuronal receptation of catecholamines. Anti-muscarinic and adrenegir effects may contribute to antiepileptic action and at once, represent a potential antidepressant activity.
