Resumen

MORON RODRIGUEZ, Francisco; MARTINEZ TORRES, María del C  y  MORON PINEDO, Déborah. Disminución del tránsito intestinal en ratones por tintura de guayaba (psidium guajava l.) Oral. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 1999, vol.4, n.2, pp.54-56. ISSN 1028-4796.

For many years, guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) are used in our country and in others ones of American continent, to treat simple acute diarrhea. There isn't a preclinical validation of anti-diarrheic effect of guava leaves tincture to 20 %, whereby our decision to confirm its pharmacological activity, as part of preclinical studies. Authors used the in vivo intestinal transit model in male Suiss mice (OF-1) aged 18 weeks, without foods during 6 hours before to begin the experiment. Groups were randomly created. Tincture was aplied (200; 400 or 800 mg/kg of body weight). Papaverin (10;40 or 80 mg/kg intramusculary), and atropine (0.5; 1.0 or 1.5 mg/kg intramusculary) were used as positive controls. We found that all treatment meaninfully and in a dose-dependent way, decreased the intestinal transit.
