Resumen

VIZOSO PARRA, Angel et al. Passiflora incarnata L. y Senna alata (L.) Roxo: Estudio toxicogenético que emplea 2 sistemas de ensayos a corto plazo. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2002, vol.7, n.1, pp.27-31. ISSN 1028-4796.

In order to know the possible toxicogenetic effect of the fluid extracts from Passiflora incarnata L. (passiflora) and Senna alata (L.) Roxo (French bladder senna), a mutagenic study was conducted by using 2 short-term test systems, one in vitro and another one in vivo: the Aspergillus nidulans D-30 model that detects primary damage to DNA and the micronucleus induction test in mouse bone marrow that determines clastogenic and aneugenic damage. In the in vitro assay with the Aspergillus nidulans D-30 fungus (mitotic segregation), the concentrations of the fluid extract from Passiflora incarnata L. from 0.162 to 1.296 mg of total solids/mL were evaluated, whereas concentrations between 0.504 and 2.912 mg of total solids/mL were assessed for Senna alata (L.). In the in vivo micronucleus induction test, doses of 0.607; 1.215; 2.430; and 1 313.00; 2 625.00; and 5 250.00 mg/kg of body weight were assayed for Passiflora incarnata L. and for Senna alata (L.) Roxo, respectively. In both batteries of genotoxic tests none of the 2 phytodrugs showed either cellular damage or mutagenic activity.

Palabras clave : PASSIFLORA INCARNATA [toxicity]; SENNA [toxicity]; PLANTS, MEDICINAL [toxicity]; PLANT EXTRACTS [toxicity]; MUTAGENECITY TESTS; ASPERGILLUS NIDULANS; MICRONUCLEUS TESTS.
