GONZALEZ TORRES, Yana et al. Ensayo de toxicidad a dosis repetidas del extracto acuoso de Morinda royoc L. en ratas Cenp: SPRD. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2003, vol.8, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.
An extract was obtained from the plant commonly known in Cuba as Garañón, which is used to make a product with stimulating, revitalizing and antistress activity that also increases the libidum. This product is used in Cuba as a diet supplement. The trial was carried out to evaluate the toxic characteristics of the aquous extract and to determine the toxic effects that may appear. It was orally administered at a dose of 1000 mg/kg of body weight during 28 days. Animals were observed daily to detect toxicity signs. At the end of the treatment, hematology and blood chemistry tests were made and the necropsy of the animals was performed to carry out the corresponding anatomopathological and histopathological examination. It was concluded that the hematological and blood chemistry indicators were not affected as a result of the tested substance. Affectations were not observed either in the body weight or in food consumption. The results obtained with the histopathological analysis corroborated the above mentioned.
