RODRIGUEZ FERRADA, Carlos Alberto; HECHEVARRIA SOSA, Isabel; CHAVEZ FIGUEREDO, Diosothys y FUENTES FIALLO, Víctor Ramón. Determination of the plantation date in Salvia officinalis L. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.1. ISSN 1028-4796.
3 plantations (one monthly) of Salvia officinalis L. were made in January, February and March of 2002 and 2003 in the grounds of "Dr. Juan Tomás Roig" Experimental Station of Medicinal Plants, in San Antonio de los Baños, La Habana, on a ferriferous red hydrated soil. Plantules obtained by stem cuttings were used. The plantation frame consisted of 3 rows by bed of 1 x 4 m (30 cm between rows) at a distance of 30 cm between plants. The beds were distributed by a randomized block design with 3 replicas for each treatment. The first harvest of the foliage was made 4 months after the plantation, and the second one, 2 months later. The cut height was 15 cm. The yieldings of fresh foliage and the percentage of essential oil were evaluated in all the harvests. The data of the experiment were processed by using the simple classification varianze analysis. The means were compared by Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that the plantations should take place in January and February when the highest yieldings of plant material are obtained. The yieldings of essential oil oscillated in an erratic way in harvests and years between 1.1 and 1.7 %
