Resumen

COLOM LOO, Yamila et al. Anti-tumor action of Cuban plant extracts against lymphocytic leukemia P-388. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.2. ISSN 1028-4796.

The search for natural compounds having anti-neoplastic action is one of the present priorities in the struggle against cancer all over the world. The increasing use of herb medicine in preventing and curing several diseases has led to the evaluation of the anti-tumor properties of new plant extracts, mainly from the indigenous flora of each country. The present paper assessed the anti-tumor action of 27 extracts from Cuban plants on murine signal tumor lymphocytic leukemia P-388 transplanted into B2D6F1 mice that were treated intraperitoneally for 9 days. The rise in survival time compared to the negative control group after 30 day-observation period was determined in all the cases. Of the studied products, anti-tumor action against lymphocytic leukemia P-388 was detected in two extracts, which will probably be studied from the chemical and pharmacological viewpoints, with great possibilities of becoming would-be products for the treatment of cancer.

Palabras clave : Anti-tumor activity; cancer; plant extracts; murine signal tumor P-388.
