NUNEZ FIGUEREDO, Yanier et al. Effect of an oleosus extract of rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (MVZ) on the cutaneous passive anaphylaxis and the bronchial spasm induced by histamine. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.3-4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.
In order to show the antiallergic properties conferred to MVZ, it was studied its posible influence on the anaphylactic mediators and the bronchial spasm induced by histamine. In the test of cutaneous passive anaphylaxis there were used Wistar male rats that were orally administered MVZ at a dose of 6.5 mL/kg (4.8 of fatty acids/kg) during 10 days. Ketotifen 3 mg/kg was used as a positive control. The intensity of anaphylaxis was determined by quantifying the amount of extravasated Evans blue. The protective effect of bronchial spasm was determined in Hartley male guinea pigs by inducing brochoconstriction through the intravenous administration of histamine and estimating the bronchial pressure. The dose of the product used was the same as that of the previous assay. As a result, it was found that MVZ inhibited the cutaneous passive anaphylaxis in rats and the bronchoconstriction induced by 15 µg/kg of histamine by endovenous route. The outcomes suggest that the MVZ may be effective in the prophylactic treatment of type 1 allergic diseases, such as bronchial asthma, which would justify its popular use in asthmatic patients.
