Resumen

LEITE DA VEIGA, Marcelo; AGUIAR SANTOS, Antenor; PENA PEREIRA, Jackson Raimundo  y  ROGERIO ZERO, José. Ice and Arnica montana action on experimental plantar edema in rats. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.2. ISSN 1028-4796.

Effects observed between crenotherapy and topical use of Arnica montana in subplantar edema induced in Wistar rats were compared. Animals were divided in four groups: without lesion or treatment; with lesion but without treatment; ice treatment; topical Arnica ointment applied in edema. Lesion was induced by 1 % Carragenin injection. Authors assessed edema values and percentages of circulant leukocytes after 1, 2, 4 and 6 hours post-lesion. We conclude that action of cryotherapeutic treatment limits area of edema, and effect only during two first hours, while Arnic ointment has anti-inflammatory activity during the first hour and leading to a significant increase of edema percentage from fourth hour.
