CASTRO ARMAS, Ricardo et al. PlantMedCUBA database for compilation of scientific articles on medicinal plants by Cuban authors. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.4, pp. 396-407. ISSN 1028-4796.
Introduction: the results of research works and projects in the field of natural and traditional medicine have been historically published in several national and international journals. The diversity and longevity of many of these publications substantially make the process of access, recovery and consultation difficult if one takes into account that many of them are unique issues and that their handling and use have caused a lot of physical deterioration. Objectives: to design and develop an informational resource (database) allowing the professionals and interested people of the sectors the search and consultation of full texts of the largest possible number of articles on this topic published by Cuban authors. Methods: review of several national and international publications to identify and record the Cuban scientific production on natural and traditional medicine. An important element for this was version 1.0 of the compilation of scientific articles on medicinal plants published by Cuban authors (multimedia) and developed by the Center of Pharmaceutical Information in 2006. Results: the final outcome was the implementation of a database containing 900 scientific articles on the topic, published by Cuban authors in national and international journals. On the other hand, the search for and consultation of the information of your interest is made through several searching indexes and criteria such as titles of articles, year of publication, journals, institutions and authors. Finally, each of the entered articles may be fully and immediately accessed. Conclusions: as informative product, it is both an incentive and an acknoledgement for those researchers who have devoted a significant part of their lives to the study of medicinal plants in Cuba.
