Abstract

VICENTE MURILLO, Roxana et al. Fatty acids composition in Ptychosperma elegans and Livistona chineensis fruits harvested in Cuba. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.1, pp.142-148. ISSN 1028-4796.

Palms (family Arecaceae) are an important source of raw material for several industries, including the food and pharmaceutical ones. Despite more than 100 palm species grow in Cuba, yet native or introduced, they have been little studied. lipidic fractions were obtained from dried and milled ripe fruits by extraction in Söxhlet with hexane, and analyses were carried out by gas chromatography. The present work allowed know the extraction yields, the organoleptic characteristics and the fatty acids compositions of the lipid fractions obtained from the whole fruits of P. elegans and L. chinensis harvested in Cuba, which could be sources of interest in the pharmaceutical and food industries. To determine the extraction yield, the organoleptic characteristics and the fatty acid composition of the lipidic fractions of the fruits of the palms Ptychosperma elegans (R. Br.) Blume and Livistona chinensis (Jacq.) R. Br. harvested in Cuba.

Keywords : fatty acids; fruit; lipidic fractions; Ptychosperma elegans; Livistona chineensis.
