Introduction:

prostate cancer is the most common in men over 70 years of age and is the second leading cause of death. An observational, descriptive and prospective study was carried out.

Objective:

to identify the incidence of prostate neoplasia in patients over 50 years of age, in the health area of ​​the Guillermo Gonzales Polanco polyclinic. Guisa, January - April 2017.

Method:

an observational, descriptive study of longitudinal type was carried out, the universe was constituted by 87 and the sample was made up of 69, complying with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Variables were analyzed: age, origin, race, risk factors and treatment used. The data were obtained through the survey and the medical records, processed on a Pentium IV computer, using the Microsoft Word and Excel programs. The simple counting method was used and as a summary measure the absolute numbers and the percentages.

Results:

the age group of 70-79 years was where this condition prevailed, with 42.3%, being the urban area and the mixed race most affected by the disease reaching 72.4% and 68.1% respectively. Family history as the most frequent risk factor and Hormone therapy as treatment accounted for 30.44% and 72.45%.

Conclusions:

in the period studied there was an increase in cases attended by prostate neoplasia, affecting urban origin.
