DENNIS CAMPS, Anastasia; MARTI PEREZ, Julio César; SUAREZ LESCAY, Celso  y  PRIETO BRULL, Maida Niurka. Breathing complications in the immediate postoperative period of the major emergency surgery. MEDISAN [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.2. ISSN 1029-3019.

A descriptive and prospective study of 112 surgically treated patients with emergency surgery and general orotracheal anesthesia in "Dr. Joaquín Castillo Duany" Teaching Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from January to December, 2007, with the aim of identifying the breathing complications presented in 33 of them during the immediate postoperative period, predominantly caused by hypoxia among those associated to tracheal extubation (16,96%) and to depressive breathing among those not associated to the technique (10,71%). The age, smoking habit and the difficult intubation influenced in a directly proportional way on the occurrence of complications, which at the same time prevailed in those patients who were more awake.
