Abstract

Data related with the formation of middle technician in Scientific and Technical Information and Medical Library Science in Santiago de Cuba are exposed, for this, the existent records in the Secretary of the Nursing Faculty, old "Maximum Gómez Báez" Health Polytechnical Institute No. 1 were consulted, and the net librarians and those in the Provincial Information Center of Medical Sciences were interviewed. Those of the first three references libraries considered pioneers in this activity were included. Also the responsible for the Health Information Management in "Juan M. Páez Inchausti" Health Technology Faculty was contacted to obtain the total number of graduates. Since the beginnings of this specialty up to now a vertiginous advance has taken place in several directions, since the information institutions have grown in number in the territory, and the technical personnel performance working in the different health institutions have increased, as well as this has developed the training of the new technologists from one sex or another who form part of the net.
