Abstract

BONAL RUIZ, Rolando  and  CASCARET SOTO, Xiomara. Self-management, self-care or self-control in chronic diseases? Approach to their analysis and interpretation. MEDISAN [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.4. ISSN 1029-3019.

In 2002, the World Health Organization recognized that the self-management was the cornerstone in the medical care of patients with chronic diseases. However, this concept has been polemic, even in the same countries where it was created, because it is mistaken for and translated as self-care, self-control, self-management, self-treatment or self-help. Moreover, aspects related to terms such as education to the chronic patient, self-management education and support for the self-management, also interchangeable, are also valued.

Keywords : SELF CARE; SELF CARE [methods]; CHRONIC DISEASE; CHRONIC DISEASE [rehabilitation]; PATIENT EDUCATION AS TOPIC.
