VELOSO MARINO, Bárbara María; RODRIGUEZ ROCA, Vilma y MEDINA GARCIA, Carmen. Risk factors associated with family child abuse in schoolchildren from the "Roberto Rodríguez Sarmiento" day boarding school. MEDISAN [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.5. ISSN 1029-3019.
A case-control study was carried out in 50 children that suffered any of the categories of child abuse made by their parents or caretakers (cases), and 100 children selected by means of a simple random sampling (control) belonging to the "Roberto Rodríguez Sarmiento" day boarding school from the "José Martí" health area in Santiago de Cuba, from January to December, 2007, to identify those factors related to the occurrence of domestic violence in ages between 8 and 11 years. Odds ratio and interval of confidence were used as statistical techniques. The most frequent modalities of child abuse were physical and psychological violence in children with helping factors such as a deficiency in academic performance and hiperactiviy along with low family income and divorce. The mother was the main person that mistreated her children.
