Abstract

A descriptive and cross sectional study was carried out to determine the mortality and lethality rates due to chronic renal failure, calculated on the base of terminally ill patients, attended at the Hemodialysis Service of "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba. Infections constituted the main cause of death in patients with hemodialysis treatment. The mortality during hemodialysis represented a high percentage of the total of deads in the institution in more than a five year period.
