A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study with 41 men aged over 15 years belonging to the Medical Office No. 5 from "Dr Mario Muñoz Monroy" Polyclinic (El Caney neighborhood) in Santiago de Cuba was carried out during 2010 in order to determine the alcohol consumption patterns in this male population. Age group from 21 to 45 years, high school educational level, married status, mulatto or half-caste skin color, workers from state organizations, and daily alcohol consumption were predominant in the series. Prevalence of this toxic habit, which resulted high and constituted a health problem in this community at that moment, was specified using Surveys of Diagnostic Identifications and the General Assessment of Chronic Alcoholism.
