DOMINGUEZ PENA, Rafael; HODELIN TABLADA, Ricardo and FERNANDEZ APARICIO, Marco Antonio. Prognosis factors of mortality due to severe cranioencephalic trauma. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.11, pp.1525-1532. ISSN 1029-3019.
An analytical and observational case-control study of patients with severe cranioencephalic trauma attended at the emergency room and subsequently hospitalized at "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Teaching Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from January, 2009 to December, 2010 in order to determine the main prognosis factors related to mortality due to that cause. That is why some statistical tests, such as chi square test, odds ratio, and logistical regression model, were performed. Age over 60 years, bradypnea, bradycardia, and hypotension prevailed among prognosis factors which influenced in mortality due to this kind of trauma. In the bivariate logistic regression analysis, bradypnea and hypotension were the independent prognostic variables.
