Abstract

URGELLES PEREZ, Yanelis  and  ABELLAS LA O, María Arsenia. Some considerations on infant feeding for the preservation of oral health. MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.4, pp.596-605. ISSN 1029-3019.

Oral dental health constitutes a component of the overall health of humans, vital for proper growth and development of children and adolescents, associated with different factors such as nutrition, communication, speech, appearance and self-esteem. The best way of achieving this is with correct brushing and prevention of harmful habits, including baby's bottle use, ground food consumption, sucking fingers and tetes, and mouth breathing. From this reflection available biomedical literature on some basic aspects of food in the first year of life was reviewed, including types of breastfeeding and ablactation, all from the stomatological approach to emphasize the importance of properly feeding the infants in order to maintain their oral health.

Keywords : infant; caries; oral health; feeding; prevention; ablactation; health promotion; stomatology.
