Abstract

HODELIN TABLADA, Ricardo  and  FUENTES PELIER, Damaris. Solidarity beyond justice: approaches to the Cuban scenario. MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.12, pp.1914-1924. ISSN 1029-3019.

In Cuba it is recognized that health is a fundamental human right and a duty of the state, which is definitely translated as the "license" to demand efficient health services. Under an approach of solidarity beyond justice, according to the Cuban experience, and an analysis of the equality as a crucial issue in health policy this work was developed, in which it is considered that the main justification for public funding of this vital care is precisely to achieve certain equity goals. It is also highlighted how the intersectoral social practice has become a need of health systems, so that its conceptual understanding and the factors involved in its progress are fully valid in this field. On the other hand, empathy, health consumerism, the key elements that characterize the medical vocation and its relation to the basic principles are emphasized, as well as proletarian internationalism as the highest expression of solidarity.

Keywords : bioethics; equity; empathy; proletarian internationalism; solidarity; Cuba.
